Keep tabs, free memory
Sleep Chrome tabs without closing them
Closing tabs can break your flow. Sleeping is useful when you want the page later but do not need it occupying memory right now.
Manual option: Chrome Memory Saver
Open Settings > Performance and turn on Memory Saver. Chrome can then deactivate eligible background tabs automatically, and you can add important sites to the always-active list.
TabVitals is useful when you want to see the heavy candidates first and make the sleep decision yourself.
Sleep is not the same as close
A sleeping tab stays in the tab strip. Its title and position remain available, so you do not have to rebuild your workspace or search browser history.
Wake it by returning
Click the tab when you need it again. Chrome reloads the page and the tab returns to active use.
Protect important sites
Always Awake keeps email, meetings, music and dashboards out of bulk sleep. Active, pinned and audio tabs are also protected during cleanup.
