Which Chrome tab is using the most RAM?
A large Chrome total does not tell you whether one tab is the problem or twenty smaller tabs are adding up. Start with a per-tab view.
Check the tabs, not only the Chrome total
Start with Chrome Task Manager: press Shift+Esc on Windows or open Window > Task Manager on macOS, then sort by Memory footprint. This is the built-in manual way to identify a heavy page.
Busy sessions can still take time to interpret. TabVitals X-Ray groups the useful result around the page names you already know and keeps conservative lower-bound readings clearly marked with ≥.
- Look for unusually large MB or GB readings.
- Prioritize background tabs you are not using.
- Leave active work, audio and protected sites alone.
Decide what to sleep
A heavy tab is not automatically a bad tab. A meeting, a design file or a spreadsheet may be important right now. Sleep is most useful for heavy pages you want to keep but do not need at this moment.
Keep the tab, release the pressure
Sleeping a tab leaves it in the same window and position. When you return, Chrome reloads it and you continue from the tab instead of searching for it again.
